PartiGene is part of the Edinburgh-developed EST analysis pipeline (consisting of trace2dbEST, PartiGene, wwwPartiGene, port4EST and annot8r). PartiGene is a menu-driven, multi-step software tool which takes sequences (usually ESTs) and creates a non-redundant set of sequence objects (putative genes) which we term a partial genome.

Version 3.0.6 corrects some bugs, adds documentation (POD), and unifies the look-and-feel. The user guides are still v3.0.3, and are valid.

PartiGene clusters sequences using CLOBB2. CLOBB2 parses the output of old-style megablast searches (ie not megablast searches performed within the BLAST+ suite) - and furthermore, various changes to the megablast output from BLAST version 2.2.18 onwards 'break' CLOBB2. To use PartiGene you MUST therefore install BLAST version 2.2.17, available from the NCBI FTP site at ftp://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/blast/executables/release/2.2.17/

Wuchereria bancrofti

The human-parasitic filarial nematode Wuchereria bancrofti.
Filarial nematodes are tissue and gut parasites of a wide range of vertebrates, including humans. This species causes human elephantiasis, affecting over 20 million people. See NEMBASE4 for analyses of ESTs from this parasite and many other nematodes.
