The Expressed Sequence Tag Dataset

The Filarial Genome Project has initially focussed on gene discovery through EST sequencing. Single-pass 5' reads were performed on clones, and the sequences deposited in dbEST. Each clone has a unique name which identifies its source (lifecycle stage and library). These sequence tags identify genes expressed in the parasite and can be used to define the genes' function and can act as probes for mapping and other studies. The project bioinformatics strand is dedicated to performing quality analyses on the EST dataset: these are made available through downloadable or www-accessible databases.
