The Ascaris suum genome comes in two forms: the 'complete' germline genome, and a smaller, 'edited' version found in somatic cells. The phenomenon of chromatin diminution is not unique to Ascaris suum (or the Ascaridiids) but the mode employed by Ascaris and related nematodes is likely to be unique and facsinating.
